The project “L2 Italian Digital Sea: The Moodle Platform and the H5P Wave for Learning with Safe Anchors” created by Laura Morano, Rosalia Palumbo and Elena Caldirola has been accepted at the Moodle Moot 2025 Conference to be held on December 17, 18 and 19 in Ferrara.
The Italian L2 teaching project in the Agri-Food Sustainability course uses H5P content integrated into the videos to make the lessons interactive and fully consistent with the Moodle environment. The organization of materials into pills (according to the principles of microlearning) and continuous assessment create a dynamic, flexible and easily upgradeable learning environment. The possibility of analysing student results in context and detail finally allows the method to be precisely modulated in the subsequent phases of the course.
Presenting this teaching experiment at a national conference is an opportunity to engage with other educational institutions, to continually improve and gain new insights for future courses.
On 17 November 2025, the Master Course in Agrifood Sustainability hosted a vibrant multicultural event at the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences of the University of Pavia.
The day began with an introductory session for the new Agrifood students 2025-2026, held in the Computer Room of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. Guided by the Course staff, the students were introduced to the process of selecting their study plan.
The program continued with an international potluck lunch featuring dishes from around the world. New Agrifood students, joined by several senior students, each brought a dish representing their home country. Small flags placed on each plate led many participants to nickname the event the “Food Olympics.”
Teachers of the Agrifood Sustainability course also attended, creating an informal environment for discussion on food sustainability, dietary models, and cultural traditions.
At the opening of the event, Prof. Landoni addressed the new students with a warm welcome and invited everyone to enjoy the shared meal. Dishes from Italy, Iran, India, Nigeria, Mexico, Ghana, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and many more countries were served, showcasing the true diversity of the Agrifood program, which is taught in English and attracts students from across the globe.
The atmosphere highlighted food as a universal language of connection. From Italian pizzas and cakes to African chicken dishes, Indian sweets, and a variety of Iranian specialties, the culinary diversity reflected the students’ independence, creativity, and readiness for their academic journey.
In this “Olympics,” everyone was a winner, celebrating the University of Pavia’s values of diversity, equality, sustainability, and human connection.
This morning, the new educational and experimental field of the Master’s Degree in Agrifood Sustainability was tilled and prepared for upcoming teaching activities.
Covering about half a hectare, it will serve as a key space for hands-on training and course-related experiments — a major step towards more practical and sustainable learning!
We’re excited to let you know that the Italian Ministry has officially approved Agrifood Sustainability as a Blended Master’s Degree Program, starting from the academic year 2025–2026.
What does "Blended" mean?
It means your courses will be a mix of:
-
In-person (face-to-face) classes
-
Blended classes, where you’ll study partly online and partly in person.
In the first semester of your first year, you’ll study mostly online, with practical activities taking place in person starting from January 2026.
Should I come to Pavia by September 2025?
Arriving in Pavia by September is warmly recommended, but it is not strictly required, because:
-
September is the best time to find housing, which may be difficult later.
-
You’ll have time to settle in, explore the city, and make friends.
-
You can join the University of Pavia Welcome Week — full of helpful info and fun activities for international students.
-
The Master’s program offers preparatory courses in September — you can attend in person (recommended!) or online if you’re not here yet.
Do I need to apply for a visa now?
Absolutely, yes! If you require a visa, please apply as soon as possible, as the process can take some time. For guidance, reach out to the Admissions Office: admission@unipv.it .
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. We’re here to help!

The Agroecology course started this week with two visiting professors from California, Miguel Altieri and Clara Nicholls, who will lecture for a week on cultivation, production and marketing in the context of climate change and the future of agriculture. On Friday, they will take part in an educational trip to Oltrepo' at three companies specialising in wine and olive oil.
The 'Marketing of Sustainable Wines' course started at the Ghislieri College, as part of the 'Universities in Colleges' project.
Wine is the most complex, dense in history and full of meaning of all agricultural products. Although it has deep roots in the land from which it comes, it has become a symbol of trade, religion, culture and spirituality in many countries far from its place of origin for more than 9,000 years. Right up to the present day, where it still ranges, as a product, from commodity to luxury, dealing with the most heterogeneous dynamics and situations. This makes it an ideal example for analysing the declination of agri-food sustainability marketing in our world today, using the same product but in different channels and market niches with different dynamics.
The course will be held by Gian Matteo Baldi, who holds a degree in Business from the University of Buckingham and an MBA from the Bologna Business School. He started his career at a very young age as a wine producer, achieving important results with his small company and producing wines that are now considered iconic.
After the age of 30, he began a career as a manager at larger companies (Cav. G.B. Bertani, Feudi di San Gregorio, Bertani Domains, Campari Wines, Sella&Mosca) from sales manager to CEO and eventually creator and manager of innovative projects in the world of wine. In the meantime, he also taught at university, studied and wrote articles.
The initiative, also open to students not resident in the Collegio, was held as part of the degree course in Agri-food Sustainability of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences of the University of Pavia.
